On the Theme of
The First Ten Chemical Elements

Newdoll went through a major chemistry phase in her artwork journey because of probing questions from her daughter.  She spent years designing artistic chemistry oriented artwork and games.  This included  collector cards and rubber stamps meant to allow you to make chemically bonded compounds.

The Big Bang.  3' x 4', mixed media on paper, 2013. Private collection.

Early elements forming after the big bang.  Elements with one, two and three protons in their center came first - hydrogen, helium and lithium.

Helium Balloon.  23" x 30", mixed media, 2013. $500 plus tax and shipping.

The element helium - lighter than oxygen - the happy contents of floating balloons.

Boron Cages.  23" x 30", mixed media, 2013. $600 plus tax and shipping.

The element boron may be able to form cage-like structures resembling this one.  Normally, one thinks of boron as making three bonds to other atoms, but in this, the five electrons are distributed into five partial bonds to make cages.

[L. Chkhartishvili. Nanoboron (An overview). Nano Studies, 2011, 3, 227-314.]: Elemental boron possesses a variety of micro and nano-structured forms, which can find applications in number of techniques and technologies.

Protein Backbone and Flower Side Chains. 23" x 30", mixed media, 2013.  $500 plus tax and shipping.

The elements that make up the backbone of proteins, carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen, with floral side chains.

Ionic Attraction.  23" x 30", mixed media, 2013. $800 plus tax and shipping.

Lithium and fluorine have an explosive attraction. Fluorine needs one more electron to have a full outer shell, and lithium is easily stolen from.

The Taming of Hydrogen.  23" x 30", mixed media, 2013. $500 plus tax and shipping.

Two molecules of hydrogen form hydrogen gas.

Neon.  23" x 30", mixed media, 2013. Private collection.

The element neon glows after electrons that have been exited by electricity up into the next shell fall back down where they belong, giving off the energy it took to escape their usual place in the atom.

Surface Tension, close up.  8' x 10' mixed media, 2013.  Collection of the artist.

Canvas banner for show on the first ten elements and beyond.  Water molecules are attracted to each other with what are called hydrogen bonds, which causes surface tension.
